Athletic Departments Are Making Recovery Gear Easier to Access

· by Griffin Harrington

Recovery is a big part of staying healthy. Student athletes know it, and athletic trainers know it too. The tricky part is balancing student access with keeping expensive gear safe.

Hyperice massage guns, Normatec boots, and other recovery tools cost a lot of money. That’s why they usually end up locked in an office or only available when a trainer is around. The problem is students don’t keep a 9 to 5 schedule. They want to recover after a late-night workout, early before class, or in between practices.

RecRe makes that possible.

Recovery Gear That’s Always Available

With RecRe, students can check out recovery gear anytime with their phone. Lockers are secure and self-service, which means no more waiting on staff to hand things out.

Every cubby has outlets inside too. That keeps the gear charging when it’s not in use, so it’s ready to go whenever a student needs it. Trainers don’t have to worry about juggling batteries or charging stations.

Staff Stay in Control

While students enjoy the freedom, staff still get the oversight they need. RecRe tracks every checkout, every return, and makes sure gear doesn’t go missing.

Trainers and equipment managers can also see data like:

– Which students are using the gear

– How often it’s being checked out

– How long it’s being used

This gives trainers confidence that athletes are sticking to their recovery plans and helps back up training conversations with real numbers.

Put the Gear Where Students Live and Train

Convenience matters. RecRe boxes are often placed in residence halls, athlete lounges, or rec centers. That way, the gear is right where students are, making it more likely they’ll actually use it.

At Oxford College of Emory, the athletic department set up RecRe so recovery tools are waiting in athlete spaces. Rutgers Recreation has opened things up even more, offering both classic gear like basketballs and high-value recovery tools like Hyperice products.

Why It Works

For students, RecRe means gear that’s easy to grab and always ready.

For staff, it means accountability and peace of mind.

By making recovery equipment more accessible while keeping it secure, RecRe helps campuses support healthier, more consistent recovery for their students.
