How Boise State Boosted Recreation Gear Use by 25% with RecRe
How Boise State Transformed Campus Recreation with RecRe
For the past 18 months, Boise State University has been on an exciting journey with RecRe, completely changing the way they manage recreation gear on campus. From lost basketballs to staffing headaches, Boise State faced challenges common to many campuses. But with RecRe, those problems are now history.
From Chaos to Control: The Accountability Revolution
Before RecRe, gear was disappearing at an alarming rate, costing Boise State hundreds of dollars every few months. Tracking was limited to an outdated Excel spreadsheet, making accountability almost impossible.
Enter RecRe. With our automated accountability system, Boise State now enjoys an impressive 99% return rate on gear rentals. Students have easy, free access to equipment, and RecRe steps in to ensure everything comes back—letting campus staff focus on more important tasks.
Convenience Sparks Engagement: 25% Boost in Gear Usage
One of the biggest surprises Boise State experienced was how much gear usage jumped. After just one semester, gear utilization shot up by 25%. Why? Because RecRe lockers are conveniently located right where students need them—by the basketball court, fitness spaces, and more. No more trekking across the facility to check out gear.

Boise State Leading the Way
Boise State didn’t just adopt RecRe—they’ve been pivotal in shaping it. They’ve pushed boundaries, achieving the highest daily basketball rentals of any RecRe location nationwide. Their insights and feedback directly influenced new features, making RecRe better for campuses everywhere.
Happier Staff, Lower Turnover
Eden Huerta, Member Services Coordinator at Boise State Campus Rec, shared some impactful insights:
“Before RecRe, it just wasn’t feasible to have staff at all of our locations waiting to check out equipment. … Now, we’re able to have student supervisors take responsibility in overseeing [RecRe] rental systems. It’s one of the multiple aspects where automation can benefit the student staffing experience.”
RecRe also significantly improved staff satisfaction. Huerta added:
“[Before RecRe] a big portion of our staff members’ responsibility was to check out pieces of equipment, [which] created a low-fulfillment job for student staff and didn’t offer a lot of staff development. [Since implementing RecRe], we haven’t seen staff turnover during the semester. … It just goes to show you that their daily shifts are more fulfilling.”
The RecRe Difference
After 18 months, Boise State is seeing results in multiple ways:
- Fewer lost items
- Increased equipment usage
- Lower staffing costs
- Improved staff morale and retention
Boise State’s experience clearly shows that RecRe is more than just a solution—it’s changing the game for campus recreation management.
