Increased Student Engagement at ABAC with RecRe

· by Griffin Harrington

Thanks to the RecRe partnership with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), students now have 24/7 access to the recreational gear they love, right where they need it. With two RecRe boxes strategically placed on campus, students are enjoying self-service access to billiards, ping pong, air hockey, and more, making campus spaces more active, social, and fun!

Expanding Access to Meet Student Needs

ABAC’s first RecRe Box was introduced at the John Hunt Town Center, where students already frequented the space for billiards and ping pong. With the adjacent 24-hour library and computer lab, it only made sense to extend access to these high-demand items beyond regular operating hours. The goal? Give students a way to de-stress, take study breaks, and build community—whenever they need it. Plus, the added accountability of checkouts ensures the gear stays in top shape for everyone to enjoy.

The success of the first box was clear. The Billiards Set was used over 400 times in the fall semester of 2024! Also ranking high on the list were PS5 controllers and games and Ping Pong sets —all proof that when given the opportunity, students love engaging with shared recreational gear.

A Second Box for More Student Fun

After seeing RecRe in action, the Dean’s Office wanted in. They recognized the value of student engagement and made a student-focused decision to introduce a second RecRe Box in the Student Center. This additional box expands access to fun, social activities by offering self-service billiards, air hockey, foosball, and more, reinforcing the campus’s commitment to student well-being and connection.

Dr. Kramer, alongside Shawn Burnette and Shirley Wilson, expressed their excitement about the new addition, emphasizing how RecRe supports ABAC’s mission to create a vibrant and interactive campus experience. With students in Lakeside and ABAC Place living nearby, the second RecRe Box serves as another way to activate those spaces and foster community.

The Power of Automated Recreation

RecRe is more than just a rental system—it’s a way to transform underutilized spaces into active student hubs. By automating the check-out process, students get access to the gear they want without adding extra workload for campus staff. The result? More student engagement, better accountability, and maximized space utilization.

ABAC’s partnership with RecRe is proof that when institutions invest in flexible, student-centered solutions, campus life thrives. Whether it’s a late-night ping pong match or an impromptu billiards game, RecRe is helping ABAC students make the most of their college experience—one rental at a time.
