24/7 Student Engagement: How RecRe Powers Campus Life at Denison University

· by Griffin Harrington

At Denison University, students are always looking for ways to connect, collaborate, and unwind. With the Slayter Hall Student Union serving as a 24/7 hub for student activities, RecRe has helped bring a new level of accessibility and accountability to campus resources. From game nights to study sessions, our self-service rental platform ensures that students have what they need—when they need it.

Supporting Liberal Arts Colleges with Scalable Solutions

RecRe has found great success partnering with small liberal arts institutions like Denison, Union College, and Swarthmore College. These campuses thrive on close-knit communities and student-driven engagement. RecRe enables students to take charge of their experiences without relying on staff oversight by providing around-the-clock access to high-demand items.

With a RecRe locker placed inside Slayter Hall, Denison students have been able to rent a variety of items seamlessly, fostering small group interactions and spontaneous gatherings. Whether it’s a poker set for a late-night tournament or a Bluetooth speaker for a study session, the inventory reflects the dynamic needs of students on campus.

What Are Denison Students Renting?

Based on rental data from the Slayter Hall RecRe box, these are the most popular items among students:

🎥 Projector (Top rented item)

🔊 Portable Bluetooth Speaker (Second most rented item)

♦️ Poker Set (Third most rented item)

Chess & Checker Set (Fourth most rented item)

🏗 Giant Jenga (Fifth most rented item)

This mix of entertainment and productivity tools shows how students balance fun and academics within their shared spaces.

When is RecRe Most Active?

Tracking usage trends, we found that September was the busiest rental month, aligning with the start of the academic year when students settle into campus life. Additionally, Saturdays were the most popular rental day, showing a strong preference for weekend activities and social gatherings.

RecRe Powers Student Life Even After Hours

One of the biggest challenges for student unions and student life teams is keeping spaces active and staffed late into the night. With RecRe, that problem is solved.

Data shows that 32.8% of all rentals occur between 9 PM and 6 AM, when it would typically be difficult or costly to staff a help desk. Additionally, the peak rental hour at Denison is 8 PM, a time when students are winding down from their academic commitments and looking for ways to engage socially.

Because RecRe operates as an always-on, self-service rental platform, Denison students can borrow what they need whenever they need it—without requiring additional staffing resources.

How Many Students Are Using RecRe?

In 2024, over 8% of the student body rented from RecRe. However, in reality, the number of students who received value from RecRe is much higher than that. Most of the products encourage group engagement, such as a game of poker or a movie projector night or a group circled a Giant Jenga game. This engagement underscores the value and convenience that RecRe brings to the Denison community, enhancing student life by providing accessible resources for various activities.

Elevating Student Life Through Smart Automation

Denison University’s partnership with RecRe highlights how automation can enhance student life while reducing administrative burden. By integrating RecRe into Slayter Hall, the university has enabled students to take full advantage of their campus environment—without barriers or scheduling limitations.

Our ongoing success at institutions like Denison, Union College, and Swarthmore College reaffirms that small liberal arts schools benefit immensely from self-service rental solutions. When students have easy access to the right tools, their ability to connect, collaborate, and build community strengthens.
